Assistant Professor of Music, Full Time Tenure-Track in Applied Studio Piano
Provide applied studio classical piano instruction to music majors and minors. Teach courses in a strong secondary area as related to background and experience, collaborate with other faculty members and departments, and coach chamber music. Provide creative leadership for a large, urban undergraduate piano program and serve as director of piano studies for instruction, juries, and auditions. Maintain local, regional, and national visibility as a piano performer, collaborator, and teacher. Work to recruit and retain students. Advise students, participate in scholarly professional activities, manage staff accompanists, and perform department, university and community service. Teach a 12-hour load per semester and perform other duties as assigned.
All but dissertation (“ABD”) in Music; or a Master’s degree in piano plus significant regional recognition.
A Doctorate in piano; or a Master’s degree in piano performance/collaborative piano plus significant regional recognition.
Demonstrable college level teaching experience.
Experience coordinating a college piano program, including recruiting and overseeing affiliate faculty.
The candidate should demonstrate the ability to teach in a secondary area at the collegiate level, such as piano pedagogy, music theory, musicology, or jazz.
Demonstrated activity and success as a performer through local, regional, and national visibility as a piano performer, collaborator, and teacher.
The successful candidate must have the ability to work with, and be sensitive to, the needs of a diverse urban population.
