Job ID:  1851 - SATSS - FT

Performs a variety of tasks to assist in the maintenance of the Miami University Equestrian Center and the horses boarded there.

Duties

1. Daily cleaning of stalls, and periodic stripping/rebedding of stalls, as well as feeding and watering of horses in the barns and fields.

2. Sweeping, dusting, cleaning of all areas, including public areas, tack rooms, offices, restroom.

3. Grooming of horses, including daily routine grooming and more specialized show grooming.

4. Perform daily physical and psychological inspection of all horses, reporting abnormal physical appearance or unusual behavior to the Manager.

5. Perform first aid and health maintenance duties on horses, such as daily leg maintenance duties involving rubbing and bandaging tendons and hoof inspection.

6. Perform duties involving feed additives/supplements and medicated feed supplements.

7. Perform duties that may require knowledge of and experience with different types of farm machinery.

8. Perform duties which may involve interaction with college students, parents, alumni, and prospective students, requiring a degree of communication skills and professional decorum.

Knowledge of procedures of horse training and shows.  Knowledge of and experience with farm machinery.  Knowledge of equipment and procedures used in conditioning arena footing surfaces and courses of jumps for training.

Frequent standing, walking, climbing, and operating equipment.  Some lifting of materials weighing up to 70 pounds.  Periodic assignment given which entail dealing with modestly unpleasant physical situations.  There may be considerable noise generated by machine operation and some machinery may present an element of personal risk of injury due to an accident.

Minimum Qualifications

Knowledge of procedures of horse training and shows.  Knowledge of and experience with farm machinery.  Knowledge of equipment and procedures used in conditioning arena footing surfaces and courses of jumps for training.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Good communication skills and exhibited professional decorum.
  • Knowledge of and experience with farm machinery.
  • Ability to drive horse trailers (2 and 6 horse), tractor, gator etc.
  • Prior experience in horse care and barn and farm maintenance.
  • CPR and First Aid certified
