Detailed Job Description

The Academic and Career Advisor/Counselor provides quality academic advising and career counseling services to students; provides day-to-day counseling with students on setting academic and career goals, assessing individual skills in academic and professional pursuits, advise students on making decisions to achieve academic requirements and work with students on career related training and assessment. Other duties include administering and interpreting career assessments, conducting workshops and presentations, monitoring student’s academic progress, and teaching a career related course.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree and two (2) years of professional work experience in student services or related education/experience. A Master’s degree in a related field may substitute for one (1) year of professional work experience. Any combination of relevant education and professional experience may be substituted for the educational requirement on a year‐for‐year basis.

Preferred Qualifications

Master’s degree in Counseling Psychology or closely related field.

Experience in academic advising.
Experience assisting students in searching for job and/or graduate/professional school opportunities.

Experience in teaching and developing career planning courses.

Experience in a higher education setting.
