Quinnipiac University invites applications for the position of Academic Specialist for the Learning Commons on the North Haven campus. This position reports to the Director of the Learning Commons and is a resource to students, faculty, and staff in implementing retention strategies specific to the university. This position serves as a nexus for retention strategies, academic outreach and academic resources for first-year students, transfer students, and the faculty and staff who work with these two audiences.

Identify and support at-risk and transfer students.
Support a wide range of individual and transfer students in learning skills.
Promote the Learning Commons through classroom presentations, open houses, faculty orientations, and other opportunities.
Interact with other professional support services on campus and in the community where deemed appropriate.
Assist faculty and staff with academic intervention and support strategies.
Identify support opportunities and recommend appropriate responses.
Attend conferences, workshops, and meetings pertinent to the responsibilities of this position.
Analysis data and make proposals on support opportunities.
Assume additional responsibilities as deemed necessary by the director.
Master’s degree in an appropriate field.
Three to five years’ experience in post-secondary education that must include teaching, academic counseling, and skills assessment;
Additional experience evaluating instructional techniques, student development plans and objective test preparation;
Superlative interpersonal and oral/written communication skills;
Proven organizational ability;
Experience developing and evaluating instructional technology;
Competency with a Windows-based platform and applications; a working knowledge of Datatel is advantageous.
Experience with professional organizations such as NACADA, CRLA, or NCLCA is advantageous.
