Career services

This position will be responsible for providing comprehensive career counseling services to a diverse student population with the end goal of facilitating the adoption of effective academic & career planning and decision making skills.

As a member of the Career Planning Department, this position will consistently contribute to the planning, promotion, and execution of programs to guide students in exploring and achieving their career goals in concert with the University’s mission statement.

Basic Function:

The Assistant Director will provide direct career counseling to individuals and groups to help them make effective decisions regarding academic and professional goals.

Assist individual students in the career exploration process through the administration and interpretation of assessments linking dispositions, preferences, and values to an academic and career path.

Assist individual students in their career planning activities by suggesting experiences and interventions to enhance their holistic development and competitiveness.

Serve as a liaison with Academic Affairs regarding internships and experiential learning.

Design, develop, and deliver group presentations on an array of career-related topics including a familiarity with learning outcome assessment techniques.

Contribute to the planning, execution, and follow-up of large-scale events such as career-, graduate school- and academic major fairs.

Contribute to the effort to initiate, maintain, and grow relationships with external groups such as employers, internship host sites, and professional associations.

Participate and actively represent the Department to University committees, work groups, and broader efforts in conjunction with the Director.

Required Education/Experience/Skills:

Successful candidates will have demonstrated experience in the delivery of career education services through highly developed small group presentation, programming (with an eye towards learning outcome assessment), and teaching skills.

Proficiency with technology is also required as this position utilizes and trains others to access career resources delivered through a variety of platforms.

Selected candidates must also have the ability to work independently as well as within a team context.

Minimum Qualifications:

A Master’s degree in a related field from a regionally accredited institution is the desired educational qualification.

Preferred Qualifications:

Additional counseling experience with traditional-age college students and adult learners (across multiple mediums) is desirable.

Direct experience administering and interpreting career assessments for use within a counseling context.

Direct experience utilizing Symplicity/NACELink in a Career Center setting is a preferred experiential qualification.

A great sense of humor will aid the selected, successful candidate in this role.
