Detailed Job Description
The Program Director/Content Manager for Alabama Public Radio manages the overall broadcast and on-line program and promotion schedule for APR.
Additional Department Summary:
Responsibilities include audience outreach, program acquisition and scheduling, production of promotional and branding messages, and program operations. He/she keeps the station's programming and content services compliant with all rules and regulations as stipulated by all regulatory agencies and provides leadership and policy development as a member of the Management Team. The position follows national, regional, and local trends in public radio broadcasting to assist with successfully programming and promoting the radio services. The position draws upon local and national sources to build programming and promotions that meet the needs of a statewide audience and effectively markets the station.
Required Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree and two years of related experience or Master's degree and some related experience.
Additional Required Department Minimum Qualifications:
Experience in broadcasting and/or online programming and promotion. Relevant experience includes program management, audio production, project development, community relations, program automation, and supervision of volunteers and staff.
Skills and Knowledge:
Ability to plan, organize and implement programming and promotional activities and work effectively with a timeline. Ability to establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with coworkers and to work effectively in collaboration across teams. Broad understanding of the purposes and mission of public broadcasting, and the ability to work productively in the context of a major university. Understanding of new and emerging media content distribution platforms. Understanding of programming principles, audience research, operational methods, FCC rules, and the structure and significant issues of public broadcasting. Knowledge of media/audience data analysis. Computer literate with well-rounded knowledge of basic essential software programs, i.e. Word, Excel, etc. Experience with audio production and scheduling and traffic software. Excellent communication skills, attention to detail, ability to meet deadlines, and ability to work with many kinds of people.
On-air experience with music, news and information content. Experience with Enco, Allegiance and Adobe Audition a plus. 58 Monthly (exempt): - Minimum - $ 37835.16 Midpoint - $ 54870.36
