A 12-month, full-time, Administrative Professional position in the Paul G. Allen School for Global Animal Health in the laboratory of Dr. Viveka Vadyvaloo. This person will be responsible for performing laboratory research involving zoonotic bacterial diseases, including maintaining an insect vector colony, and general lab management. The position requires spending the majority of the time engaged in independent, active development and design of research protocols and conducting experimental procedures.
Work with principal investigator to analyze results, develop conclusions and present research results in a publishable form. Maintain and ensure compliance with regulatory protocols and records related to biosafety and radiation material safety. Candidates must have good organizational skills and be comfortable with learning new techniques and operating scientific instrumentation. Be prepared to train and assist graduate and postdoctoral level researchers.
A Bachelor’s degree in an appropriate related scientific or engineering discipline and three (3) years of progressively responsible related professional research experience. Any combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted for the educational requirement on a year-for-year basis. A Master’s degree in an appropriate related scientific or engineering discipline may be substituted for up to one year of the required work experience.
Previous experience in a research laboratory.
Must have good organizational skills and be comfortable with learning new techniques and operating scientific instrumentation.
Be prepared to train and assist graduate and postdoctoral level researchers.
Expertise in molecular biology including (e.g. PCR, molecular cloning, DNA and RNA isolation, Western blot, RT-PCR), knowledge of BSL2 practice
Demonstrated Knowledge of bacterial systems.
