Detailed Job Description

The Director of Athletic Grounds is responsible for the maintenance, operation and management of the University of Alabama Department of Intercollegiate Athletics fields, the construction, maintenance and repair of the landscape areas associated with all athletic facilities.

Required Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree and a minimum of five (5) years of management experience in Division I college, NFL or MLB or other relevant experience; OR Associates degree and a minimum of seven (7) years of management experience in Division I college, NFL, or MLB or other relevant experience. Certified within the State of Alabama for the application of pesticides and insecticides on athletic fields or must be able to obtain certification within a reasonable time period upon employment.

Additional Required Department Minimum Qualifications:

Experience to include supervisory experience in managing athletic fields or a combination of athletic fields. Advanced knowledge of agronomy and turf grass management practices for baseball and softball fields; working knowledge of athletic field construction principles, practices and methods; understanding of the rules and strategies of athletic events that are played at the athletic facilities. Knowledge of current federal, state and local laws and regulations affecting the management of athletic fields, including, but not limited to, employment, safety and environmental standards. Ability to work a flexible schedule to include nights and weekends. Ability to assist in all duties for the maintenance of the athletic fields. Valid U.S. driver's license. Must be at least 21 years of age and have an acceptable motor vehicle record as determined by the insurance carrier.

Skills and Knowledge:

High degree of administrative capability in terms of problem solving and decision making. Effective verbal and written communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

Degree in Turf Management, Agronomy or related field preferred. Based on Qualifications
