Administrative Assistant to the VP of Development & Alumni Relations

Lasell College located in Newton, Massachusetts invites applications for the position of Administrative Assistant to the Vice President of Development and Alumni Relations.

The Administrative Assistant provides administrative and operational support to help facilitate the leadership and decision-making duties of the Vice President.  The Administrative Assistant, serving as a trusted advisor to the Vice President and a key member of the department’s leadership team, is responsible for management of the Vice President’s Office, and anticipating future needs; oversees special projects and supports strategic initiatives as designated by the Vice President. 

The Administrative Assistant must demonstrate a high level of professionalism, diplomacy, judgment, confidentiality, initiative, and self-motivation.  This position requires flexibility in the work schedule.


Reporting to the Vice President for Development and Alumni Relations, the Administrative Assistant is responsible for the following duties and responsibilities, which include, but are not limited to: 

  • Managing day-to-day operations of the Vice President’s Office, ensuring a high level of professionalism and efficiency in all operations
  • Meeting regularly with the Vice President to receive, update, and review priorities, and managing priorities related to campus and community requests when appropriate
  • Overseeing special projects and supporting strategic initiatives as directed by the Vice President
  • Assisting with the optimization and coordination of the Vice President’s schedule, activities and travel
  • Serving as a convener and facilitator for matters requiring the Vice President’s attention
  • Attending meetings with the Vice President when requested, lending support and follow-up as required
  • Preparing correspondence and reports as needed; proofreading documents for accuracy
  • Managing communications directed to the Vice President and correspondence requiring the Vice President’s signature
  • Serving as a liaison with outside fundraising counsel, and as the staff liaison to the Governance and Audit Committee of the Lasell College Board of Trustees
  • Conducting research for the Vice President as needed 
  • Providing administrative support to front line fundraisers, and other members of the department as requested
  • Promoting positive campus relations with faculty and staff 


  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • A minimum of three years of administrative experience required; preferably in higher education
  • Working knowledge of computers and general proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint; familiarity with PowerCampus a plus
  • Ability to anticipate and recognize problems, issues, and opportunities as they arise, and coordinate solutions
  • Must possess sound decision making skills, the ability to multi-task, a high degree of initiative and self-motivation
  • Flexibility with changing priorities and high pressure situations
  • Willingness to exercise exceptional discretion, confidentiality and judgment in dealing with private issues and college business
  • Capable of working both independently and as a team member
