Under general direction, oversees the University Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA), University employee disability accommodations, and Long Term Disability (LTD); partners with the appropriate HR Consultant on issues related to FMLA, disability accommodation or LTD in their respective units.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in business administration or a field related to human resource management; supplemented with four (4) years of related experience; preference given to candidates with leave administration and employment law compliance experience.

Job Duties and Responsibilities

Advises and provides guidance to employees and supervisors about FMLA rights and responsibilities while maintaining appropriate confidentiality of employee medical information; receives and reviews FMLA requests for University employees; determine FMLA eligibility, generates all necessary correspondence, reviews FMLA documentation, request clarification when necessary, determines whether or not leave is FMLA qualifying and makes appropriate designation on behalf of the University; coordinates and organizes all medical information and ensures that HIPAA and employee privacy guidelines are closely monitored and effectively executed; partners with appropriate HR Consultant on issues related to FMLA in their respective units.

Tracks and maintains accurate records of FMLA leave; communicates with employees and supervisors regarding FMLA status and FMLA leave balance; consults with management if FMLA time off does not represent FMLA designation; provides quarterly reports on FMLA utilization by division and contacts division management to discuss resources and support.

Advises and provides guidance to employees and supervisors about disability accommodation rights and responsibilities and the University process for requesting a disability accommodation; facilitates the interactive process for identifying disability accommodations; reviews medical documentation from qualified professionals to determine eligibility, evaluates appropriate factors for identifying and implementing reasonable workplace accommodations for qualified employees with disabilities based on applicable law; partners with appropriate HR Consultant on issues related to disability accommodations in their respective units.

Tracks and maintains accurate record of accommodation requests, supporting documents and determination made on behalf of the University.

Provides training on FMLA and disability accommodation to University and stakeholders as scheduled and on an ad hoc basis; training includes participation at manager orientation, as HR instructor-led training and quarterly based on FMLA and disability accommodation utilization; updates resources on website and through communication to educate employees on rights and processes.

Advises and provides guidance to employees and supervisors, regarding LTD benefits and the process for application; coordinates collecting application information with employees, supervisors and healthcare provider for submission and review by LTD carrier; communication of LTD determination to employee and supervisor and assist with transition to LTD if approved; partners with appropriate HR Consultant on issues related to LTD in their respective units
