This position counsels students and parents regarding the financial aid application process, eligibility, need analysis, awarding, budgeting and repayment policies and procedures. Works with the Verification program as outlined by federal guidelines and regulations. The Verification program deals with financial aid applicants through direct contact requesting documentation to verify submitted application data. Responsible for oversight of the student office book loans.
The incumbent also serves as a member of the departmental management team which develops and recommends policies and implementation procedures for institutional, state and federal financial aid programs. All duties require monitoring and keeping current on state and federal regulations and office policies and procedures in order to assure accurate and efficient release of information and program compliance. Provides financial aid counseling to student and parents via email, phone conversations, counseling sessions, public presentations and workshops. Serves as a member of the Professional Judgment Committee.
45% – Instructs and counsels students and parents regarding the financial aid application process, eligibility, need analysis, budgeting, packaging, awarding and repayment policies and procedures. This may require giving information in Spanish and English.
30% – Answer incoming student emails.
20% – Administers the Verification program, which verifies student application data. Responsible for compliance with Federal Regulations concerning verification and refund/repayment for Federal, State and internal audits.
5% Serves as a member of the departmental management team, which develops and recommends policies and implementation procedures for institutional, state and federal financial aid programs.
The daily work schedule for this position will accommodate evening counseling hours.
One year of financial aid experience.
Experience collaborating with others to create and implement a project, program or task.
The ability to work during the evening is required.
Experience with Verification.
Experience using Banner Financial Aid Software.
Strong oral and written communication skills.
Ability to handle numerous complex and routine tasks simultaneously.
Demonstrated experience in successfully promoting multicultural and diversity initiatives for improved student retention.
