This position represents the OFA at various University recruitment, orientation and general functions. Counsels and assists students, parents and the MSU Denver community regarding the financial aid application process, eligibility, need analysis, student budgets, packaging and disbursement policies and procedures. Assists OFA staff with other job duties when needed. The incumbent also works with the management team to develop and recommend policies and implementation procedures for institutional, State and Federal financial aid programs. All duties require monitoring and keeping current on State and Federal regulations and office policies and procedures in order to assure accurate and efficient release of information and program compliance.
50% – Instructs students and parents regarding the entire financial aid process, eligibility, needs analysis, budgeting, packaging, awarding and repayment of loan funds, specializing in graduate loan counseling.
20% – Performs Return of Title IV Funds.
15% – This position administers some undergraduate and all graduate programs for financial aid including
Return of Title IV Funds and Federal Perkins Loans through the Office of Financial Aid. This includes monitoring and keeping current on Federal regulations; developing and recommending department polices and operating procedures; and developing, testing and maintaining federal regulation compliance for complex mainframe software.
5% – Develops effective working relationships with all staff, offices and agencies that are involved in the processes of this area.
5% – Keeps the OFA Directors fully informed of all changes and potential problems that could negatively impact regulations compliance, work flow or timely aid distribution to students.
5% – Represents the Office of Financial Aid at various University functions, including recruitment events and Orientation sessions.
The daily work schedule for this position will accommodate evening counseling hours.
Bilingual language(Spanish/English) – if you speak Spanish, you may be asked to counsel parents and/or students on financial aid processes.
A bachelor’s degree.
One year of financial aid experience.
Experience collaborating with others to create and implement a project, program or task.
The ability to work during the evening.
Experience with Return of Title IV calculations.
Experience using Banner Financial Aid Software.
Strong oral and written communication skills.
Ability to handle numerous complex and routine tasks simultaneously.
Demonstrated experience in successfully promoting multicultural and diversity initiatives for improved student retention.
