Detailed Job Description

The Associate Director for Summer + Special Programs establishes, recommends and implements, as approved, a strategic vision for growth and development of Summer, Young Artist and special programs. The Associate Director is responsible for driving the creation, development, and execution of a diverse offering of Summer and Special Programs that enhance the visibility of RISD|CE.

Predicated in educational innovation and driven to engaging new and diverse markets, advances, enhances, and expands the reach and impact of RISD|CE Summer and Special Programs locally, regionally and internationally. The individual will assess programmatic ideas via formal and informal market research, focus groups, surveys and community outreach to ensure programs will meet the needs of a wide range of constituencies.

Additionally, the Associate Director plans, coordinates, monitors, evaluates and supervises all aspects of courses and programs to ensure that curriculum standards and best practices of educational delivery are maintained and that all courses/programs run smoothly with a special focus on growing international global summer programs.

The individual approves all related course offerings and decisions regarding faculty hires/rehires; analyzes tuitions, competition, and program expenses; suggests marketing initiatives; and supports and supervises Summer and Special Programs staff.

The Associate Director, Summer + Special Programs will work on special assignments for and with the Executive Director.  


MA/MFA preferred in art and design, arts management, education or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Five to seven years previous experience managing education programs and/or program development/implementation, with at least three years supervising, leading, mentoring, or guiding others.

Proven leadership experience developing and translating a strategic vision into reality in an arts or educational environment and demonstrated ability to deliver comprehensive, cutting edge, innovative programming.

An understanding of global programs preferred.

Knowledge and understanding of educational markets and trends in an effort to determine viability of programs.

Evidence of the ability to work effectively with ethnically and culturally diverse communities.

Ability to identify and steward relationships which result in high impact outcomes.
