Detailed Job Description
The Program Manager for Disability Support Services (DSS) is responsible for providing services to credit and non-credit students, using his/her background in school psychology, special education, or rehabilitation counseling to develop activities that enhance the learning of students with disabilities. The Program Manager is also responsible for serving as the liaison between the DSS office and students in transition programs. The primary functions of the Program Manager are to review all campus-wide medical/psychological documentation to determine appropriate accommodations as mandated under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), and to follow up with students, external agencies, internal support personnel, and faculty to ensure that accommodations are provided, without exception, in a timely manner as mandated by law. The Program Manager will also perform comprehensive academic advising duties for DSS students and provide comprehensive consultation services and training for college personnel on ADA law.
Master's degree or higher required in Rehabilitation Counseling, School Psychology, Special Education or a related field.
Demonstrated knowledge of ADA and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act.
Minimum of five years' experience in supervising staff and providing services to populations of students with disabilities in a public school or post-secondary educational institution. Experience in a community-based social service agency may be substituted if that experience includes working with an educational institution to provide educational services to individuals.
Demonstrated knowledge in the interpretation of psycho-education evaluation reports and individual test results.
Demonstrated proficiency in evaluating disability documentation and determining appropriate accommodations at the college level.
Experience providing assessments and evaluation report-writing for the purpose of diagnosing disabilities.
Demonstrated knowledge of state and federal legislation governing services to students with disabilities and community resources.
Excellent oral, written and interpersonal communication skills required.
Working knowledge of student development theories, vocational psychological development and job search methods, particularly for students with disabilities.
Demonstrated support for the mission and philosophy of a comprehensive community college.
Working knowledge of student information systems and Microsoft applications including Word, PowerPoint, Excel and Access.
Ability to work a flexible schedule, including evening and Saturday hours, to accommodate the needs of the students and the program.
Ability to travel to off-campus locations, with or without reasonable accommodation. Valid driver's license and clean driving record required when operating a college-owned vehicle.
Ability to deal tactfully and efficiently with diverse student populations, faculty, administrators, staff, community and governmental agencies and the public.
