The University of California, Irvine invites nominations and applications for the position of Executive Vice Chancellor and Provost. Recognized for its top-rated research and graduate programs, extensive commitment to undergraduate education, and growing number of professional schools and programs of academic and social significance, UC Irvine seeks a Provost who will build on the University’s substantial momentum and lead it to a new level of academic excellence and prominence.

Founded in 1965, UC Irvine currently enrolls nearly 28,000 students and is home to 1,100 regular ranks faculty members and 9,000 staff. Consistently ranked among the nation’s best universities – public and private – UC Irvine excels in a broad range of fields, garnering national recognition for many schools, departments and programs. Recent additions include public health, pharmaceutical sciences, and nursing science programs, a recently established School of Education, as well as a new School of Law that graduated its first students in 2012.

Experience and Qualifications
UC Irvine seeks in its new Executive Vice Chancellor and Provost a leader with intellectual vision, a global perspective, a dedication to further enhancing the student experience, and a commitment to teaching and research excellence. The individual should possess demonstrated ability to understand and react to current complexities, including the political, financial, technological, and global challenges that public universities face in today’s environment. Candidates should have a history of academic leadership, a distinguished academic record of scholarship and teaching, demonstrated financial strategy and financial management skills, a commitment to teaching and the student experience, and the ability to build and cultivate consensus in a university and its programs. Underlying all the above, candidates should have a positive attitude and an active, energetic mind and a leadership style that is characterized by highly ethical practices, a commitment to diversity, and an appreciation for collaboration and its role in effective shared governance with faculty, students, and staff.
