The Code and Plan Review Specialist serves as the technical resource for complex building permit application review, plans checking, and on-site inspection of university projects. Position reviews construction projects under the direction of a WSU Project Manager. Focuses on building code compliance and related aspects of university projects from design through construction. Leads and performs skilled in-house inspection work to secure compliance with building and structural, mechanical, energy, and plumbing codes and related regulations; serves as point of contact for contractors throughout project, as well as for outside code and regulatory agencies; serves as liaison to building industry for the interpretation and utilization of building codes, specifications and requirements on city, local, state and federal levels; as well as WSU construction standards.
The Code and Plan Review Specialist is responsible for organizing and overseeing the day-to-day functions of the inspection office, and participating in the short- and long-range planning processes with university administration.
Participates with outside agencies on matters and resolution of building code related issues.
Bachelor’s degree in architecture, engineering, construction management, or related field, from an accredited institution; two (2) years related experience with demonstrated competence to perform duties; a professional license/registration applicable to the position specialty may be required. A minimum of seven (7) years construction related experience will be considered in lieu of a degree.
Three (3) years experience inspecting construction projects in progress to ensure that contracts comply with plans and specifications.
Experience inspecting existing facilities to determine maintenance and structural repair requirements.
Experience in higher education, public works, and/or General Construction /Construction Management contracting.
Work Schedule: 8:00am – 5:00pm
