Detailed Job Description

Responsible for managing the operations of assigned campus laboratories. Provides expertise in purchasing materials, supplies, and equipment. Provides instructional assistance in laboratories and classrooms in direct support of instructional programs. May involve considerable student and instructor contact. Instructs and supervises student and laboratory assistants. Provides assistance to faculty and support staff as needed.

Essential Job Functions

1. Oversees day to day operations of labs.
2. Recommends, assesses, acquires quotes and negotiates purchase of equipment and materials.
3. Plans, organizes, and coordinates the purchase, upgrade and implementation of new equipment and materials.
4. Hires, trains, evaluates, schedules and supervises lab assistants, and coordinates timesheets for payroll processing.
5. Oversees collection of information for departmental and program assessment projects.
6. Oversees implementation of safety and security procedures.
7. Provides support and expertise to faculty, staff, and administration when needed.
8. Insures that college-wide policies and procedures are correctly implemented throughout the assigned departments.
9. Serves as the Labs Purchasing Agent for the department/division.
10. Provides budget development, tracking, and reporting for all lab-related expenditures.
11. Maintains inventory and proper storage of all equipment.
12. Other duties as assigned.


1. Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited institution [required].
2. Laboratory experience.
3. Supervisory experience.
4. Must be able to perform all of the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable accomodation.

Knowledge Skills Abilities

1. Knowledge of the academic disciplines of assignment.
2. Knowledge of the principles and practices of laboratory operations in the area of assignment.
3. Ability to work with relevant laboratory equipment.
4. Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
5. Ability to select and supervise appropriate personnel to provide technical and instructional support.
6. Ability to deal effectively with students, faculty, supervisors, and administrators.
7. Ability to speak in front of groups.
8. Ability to bend, lift and carry 25 lbs.
9. Ability to work effectively in a diverse community and meet the needs of diverse student populations.
