Job Summary

The Department of Dance at Skidmore College invites applicants for the position of Assistant Professor of Dance. This is a full-time tenure-track position that will begin September 1, 2016. Skidmore seeks to attract an academically and culturally diverse faculty, especially those who can contribute to the growing diversity and excellence of the academic community through their teaching, scholarship, and service. Enthusiasm for mentoring and advising underrepresented students is essential.

Responsibilities include teaching technique classes in ballet, modern and/or contemporary dance. The Department intends to further develop its curriculum to include a focus on Dance Science, and is interested in candidates with experience in one or more of the following areas: biomechanics, injury prevention and management, anatomy/kinesiology; as well as experience in cultural or urban dance forms, and/or improvisation or choreography. Applicants must possess an MFA or doctorate in Dance or Kinesiology or closely related field of study.

In addition to teaching responsibilities, faculty are expected to advise students, supervise student research projects, develop a pattern of scholarship and professional activities, and serve on departmental and college committees as appropriate. The successful candidate will collaborate with departmental faculty to expand curricular offerings and foster the creative growth of the department.
