Job Summary

The Department of Chemistry at Skidmore College invites applications from qualified individuals at any rank for a tenure-track position beginning Fall 2016. Skidmore is a highly selective, liberal arts college located in Saratoga Springs, New York with a student population of 2,400, 21% of whom are students of color. The College is especially interested in candidates who can contribute to the growing diversity and excellence of the academic community through their teaching, scholarship, and service. Enthusiasm for teaching, mentoring, and advising a diverse population of students is essential. Applicants should include in their cover letter a brief description of their relevant experience working with diverse populations and how they will enhance the diversity of offerings and educational experiences in the Department and College with regards to their teaching, research, and/or service.

A Ph.D. in chemistry or closely related field is required with a preference for a specialty in computational chemistry. The successful candidate will be expected to teach general chemistry and upper level courses in their area of specialization in our ACS certified chemistry program, contribute to the College's interdisciplinary first year seminar program, and develop a vibrant undergraduate research program. The normal teaching load is nine contact hours per week. Start-up funds for research will be available. Skidmore offers support for faculty development in many ways, including pre-tenure sabbaticals and internal research grants. Additional responsibilities include advising students and service activities at the College.

Minimum Qualifications

A Ph.D. in chemistry or closely related field is required with a preference for a specialty in computational chemistry. Prior teaching or post-doctoral research preferred.  

Preferred Qualifications
