Job Summary

Skidmore College is looking for a Store and Publications Manager to work at the Tang Museum. This person will be responsible for imagining and operating an innovative retail operation that supports the museum goals of expanded access to and engagement with contemporary art within the Skidmore community and beyond. This position is responsible for developing and maintaining a strong, dynamic and unique identity for the shop, as well as managing the overall operation and performance of all retail at the museum, including promotion and sales of Tang catalogs. Duties will include sourcing, purchasing, developing merchandise, visual merchandising, staff supervision, training and development, loss prevention, and development of procedures to ensure efficient daily operations. Other duties will include tracking catalog inventory, developing contracts with designers and printers, and maintaining a master calendar of deadlines for catalogs in various stages of production. Along with overseeing all Tang onsite retail operations, this position handles off-site sales through Amazon and through the Tang commerce site, to bring Tang catalogs and merchandise to buyers worldwide.

All of this will be done with the purpose of enhancing the Tang "brand" while enhancing the visitor experience as a whole. This position promotes the Tang museum and its programs through customer service, retail and marketing efforts that enhance the museum's reputation as a lively and engaging destination, a vital cultural resource and an important contemporary art museum with a national reach.

Minimum Qualifications

Associates or equivalent coursework and experience is required.
Minimum of 3-5 years in retail, including managing staff. Proactive self-starter who exhibits initiative and leadership.

Preferred Qualifications

Bachelors Degree in Retail Management or Marketing preferred. Prior experience in creative or visual merchandising role preferred. Strong verbal and written skills. Superior customer service abilities. Organized, detail-oriented with superb time management skills.
