Detailed Job Description

This position is responsible for providing accounting and budgeting support services in an academic department – Music.


Position will develop and maintain departmental accounting and budgeting systems to supplement and enhance tracking and reporting of the University’s systems for the Department of Music. Responsible for tracking revenues and expenditures at the Departmental level using funds from variety of sources. Reconcile internal systems to Banner and Foundation reports; develop budgets for 12 academic areas in the Department as well as 10 large recruitment/community outreach events held annually; work with accounting services to process a variety of accounts payable and accounts receivable transactions; work with AHEC procurement services to purchase and procure a variety of music-specific items including musical instruments for ensembles and classes; and develop long-term plans for assisting the Chair with acquisition of financial resources. Work with the Foundation to manage business aspects of the Department’s annual campaign; develop internal processes to track donations through the Department’s annual campaign; develop systems for coordinating student scholarships with financial aid and the Foundation. Prepare affiliate faculty and visiting artist contracts. Work collaboratively with Chair, office staff, and faculty. Front office support, service to the Department, cross-training, and other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Business, Music or related field, or the equivalent combination of education and experience (one year of education is equal to two years of experience).

Three years of experience in bookkeeping, accounting, and or music administration.

Experience creating and using Excel spreadsheets for record keeping.

Experience developing internal departmental budget tracking systems.

Preferred Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Business, or Music.

Knowledge of Banner financial system.

Experience in higher education or in a music-related business/administrative position.

Experience collaborating and working with others as part of a team.

Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.

Knowledge or ability to use Raisers Edge or similar fundraising database system.
