Job Responsibilities

Coordinates implementation, testing, management and repair of fire safety and security systems throughout the College system including Electronic Access Control, Security Surveillance Systems, Intrusion Detection Systems, Dispatch Systems, and Fire Alarm Systems

Forecasts, plans, maintains, prepares and monitors the divisional budget

Oversees all other fire safety compliance on campus including supervision of the violation notice process

Assists in design phase of new facilities and renovated areas; provides security assessments and recommendations for CPTED improvements, physical security systems, and design layouts; reviews construction plans regarding security, fire alarm, and fire safety

Continuously inspect grounds, identifies potential hazards and makes improvement recommendations

Responds to any Emergency, manmade or natural disaster on or near campus; determine risk, necessary response and appropriate external agencies to notify for resolution

Monitors and maintains internal control systems while establishing improved processes that safeguards college assets

Ensures that campus operations are in compliance through various metrics and measurements with applicable building/fire/safety/security/etc. codes while maintaining required documentation

Collaborates with external vendors to ensure compliance with contract terms, conditions, and product or service performance

Serves as Campus Police representative to outside agencies in matters of emergency management, fire safety including the State of Ohio Fire Marshalls office, county emergency manage and the Cleveland Fire Prevention Bureau

Ensures College compliance with OSHA, EPA/RCRA, OSCIA, CDC, DOT and BUSTR regulations and processing and maintenance of related permit applications

Advises the Chief of Police of all critical operating and strategic issues to ensure the College’s security and fire safety systems are maintained

Trains direct reports to appropriately respond to applicable types of security, fire and Emergency incidents and disasters on an on-going basis

Performs other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications


Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Loss Prevention, Emergency Management or related field; and/or a minimum of five years of experience in a management level for security, fire safety and Emergency Management in an educational setting

Demonstrated experience with security management, fire and building code interpretation and compliance, fire prevention, fire safety inspection management, Emergency Management and maintenance of equipment

Demonstrated police agency management experience

Demonstrated facilities design experience

Demonstrated experience supervising, planning, assigning, scheduling and ensuring the quality of the work of others

Demonstrated experience Forecasting, Planning, Maintaining, Preparing and Monitoring a business area’s budget

Demonstrated experience effectively making decisions that have significant, broad implications on the management and operations of a division (or equivalent business area)

Demonstrated effectiveness in a role requiring dynamic and abstract problem solving methods in adaptive situations


Possesses comprehensive knowledge to support compliance activity for current OSHA, EPA/RCRA, DOT, CDC, BUSTR, building and fire code standards

Ability to complete calculations related to City/State/Federal air permits

Possesses excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills

Ability to effectively accept direction from multiple levels of the College in various departments

Ability to independently set goals and determine best course of action to achieve desired results

Demonstrated basic Project Management skills

Basic-level proficiency with Microsoft Office software applications such as Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint

Ability to confidentially and discreetly handle subject matters requiring privacy and sensitivity

Ability to collaborate, persuade, gain cooperation and acceptance of ideas on significant projects

Ability to collaborate, negotiate and resolve conflicts on major projects

Ability to facilitate top-level collaboration while managing sensitive issues

Ability to develop and maintain relationships with key contacts to enhance work flow and quality

Works accurately with great attention to detail

Ability to prioritize/handle multiple tasks and work with deadlines in a dynamic environment with limited supervision
