Dean of Students
Amherst College, one of the nation’s premier liberal arts colleges, seeks a new Dean of Students to lead the College’s efforts to provide an exemplary student experience. The Dean of Students will be a compelling campus leader, a builder of community, and a talented senior administrator of broad reach and high visibility, who will report directly to the President. Above all, Amherst seeks a seasoned professional with a deep understanding of, and commitment to, the values of an inclusive, residential liberal arts education.
The new Dean of Students will play a defining role in the experience of all Amherst students and will enhance the quality of life in the Amherst community at a time of significant change and transition. The position demands both visionary leadership and a thorough understanding of the best practices in student affairs. Success will require understanding and optimizing the interdependence of the academic and co-curricular aspects of the students’ education.

In June 2011, the Board of Trustees appointed Carolyn "Biddy" Martin as Amherst College's 19th president. To identify a new Dean of Students, President Martin has named an eight-member search committee that includes faculty, students, and administrators. The committee is assisted by the executive search firm Isaacson, Miller.
