Miami University’s Office of Admission seeks an experienced, seasoned supervisor, leader, and effective implementer to fill its senior admission officer role responsible for advancing its broad-ranging and aggressive diversity goals. Reporting to the Assistant Vice President (AVP) and Director of Admission, the Senior Associate Director for Diversity Initiatives will play a critical senior-level leadership role within the Office of Admission, the division of Enrollment Management and Student Success (EMSS) and the broader University as it relates to advancing diversity. This position will be responsible for providing leadership and oversight in the development and implementation of a coordinated, multi-dimensional, and proactive strategic diversity plan within the Office of Admission while coordinating recruitment and support efforts across the University community.

The Senior Associate Director will develop and lead the implementation of an Office of Admission diversity plan that is consistent with Miami University’s 2020 Strategic Plan, EMSS and admission goals related to advancing diversity, which includes plans for the recruitment, enrollment, and retention of underrepresented students, including but not limited to ethnic/racial diversity, socio-economic status, first generation, sexual orientation, and other non-majority populations.


  • Provide leadership for Office of Admission initiatives designed to recruit, enroll, and retain underrepresented and diverse student populations; develop short and long-term focused, integrated and strategic diversity plans in collaboration with University constituents.
  • Develop and coordinate smart, creative, and efficient outreach and diversity travel strategies to stabilize existing markets and grow new markets.
  • Develop and oversee all associated admission budget lines related to diversity initiatives and outreach.
  • Develop and implement new and measurable recruitment strategies based on research conducted on targeted populations to enhance Miami’s capacity to recruit, select, and enroll underrepresented students.
  • Direct the establishment, successful implementation, and assessment of programming geared towards underrepresented populations across the Office of Admission; monitor and recommend changes based on the strategy.
  • Promote organizational and interdisciplinary collaboration among internal and external staff, across EMSS, and offices and departments around the University that will enhance diversity and retention.
  • Direct the compilation of data and statistics for preparation of reports and projections of statistical data on underrepresented students, in the areas of enrollment and retention; utilize data and research -- institutional, state, and national – to make informed decisions.
  • Supervise and direct a diversity initiatives team comprised of both unclassified and classified staff members, and lead regular team meetings.
  • Promote professional development and training regarding cultural competence for the Office of Admission to ensure continued efforts in building an inclusive work culture.
  • Serve as the admission liaison to the Office of Career Services.
  • Actively participate in admission and recruitment-related professional organizations and activities.
  • Participate in the application review process for first-year, transfer and international students.
  • Serve as member of the AVP’s senior leadership team and advise supervisor on Ohio, Midwest, and national trends in recruitment issues.
  • Participate in general admission activities (group information sessions, on and off-campus programs, etc.).

Minimum Qualifications

A Bachelor’s degree with a minimum of five years of experience in admission, higher education, or a related field. Candidate must be politically savvy and diplomatic, possess exceptional written and oral communication skills, have a proven record of developing relationships and building rapport with internal and external constituencies, and demonstrate the ability to successfully manage a staff to ensure a climate of collaboration and teamwork, while encouraging professional development and continued improvement at the same time. Must be able to provide leadership and mentoring, but work independently and handle multiple tasks simultaneously, as well.

Must be familiar with contemporary recruitment strategies, national demographic trends, and current research in the admission field, including a demonstrated commitment to and evidence of success at recruiting and enrolling diverse students. Demonstrated knowledge and experience with computer systems and various software applications, including Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint; must be able to perform extensive overnight travel and possess a valid driver’s license.

Preferred Qualifications

Master’s degree and seven years of experience in admission, higher education, or a related field. Experience working with data for the purpose of strategic decision-making preferred. Familiarity with Banner and working with other relational databases highly desired.
