Detailed Job Description

Quinnipiac University Online was established in 2001. An early adopter of online learning in traditional education, QU Online has a dynamic and growing team and we are looking to expand that team to support the next phase of our growth. We seek energetic, disciplined, and enthusiastic professionals to join our team.


The junior instructional designer will work closely with faculty and other instructional design staff to design, develop, and produce online and hybrid courses. Candidates must be able to collaborate as part of a diverse team of instructional designers, technology specialists and administrators who are responsible for supporting all aspects of online teaching and learning across the disciplines.


Coach faculty in the use of our course management system and other supported tools.

Assist faculty in the design and development of online and hybrid courses.

Advise on instructional design methods for achieving desired learning outcomes.

Troubleshoot challenges encountered in the delivery of online learning environments.

Create guides, tutorials and documentation for faculty and the instructional design team.

Evaluate and recommend appropriate technologies for adoption in online courses.

Manage other departmental projects as required.

Qualifications & Special Instructions to Applicants

Required Skills:

Bachelor’s degree in instructional design, instructional technology or related field; Master’s degree strongly preferred.

Minimum of 2-3 years of experience supporting educational technology, instructional design and/or course development for online and blended learning.

Experience with Blackboard or other learning management systems.

Demonstrated ability to meet project deadlines with limited direct supervision.

Excellent speaking, writing and problem solving skills.

Strong interpersonal and customer service skills.

Desired Skills:

Knowledge of Flash, HTML, graphic design, Photoshop, multimedia and screen capture.

Experience with creating audio and video learning resources.

Knowledge of intellectual property, the Teach Act, universal design and Section 508 compliance.

Understanding of the Quality Matters course review process.

Knowledge of higher education curriculum and learning objectives.

Teaching experience in a higher education setting.
