To serve the career services and professional development needs of La Verne Law students and alumni and to assist the Director of Career Services and Professional Development.
Develop employment opportunities for students and alumni in both the private and public sector by contacting prospective employers through mail, email, phone calls, and personal visits.
Assist with the the implementation of La Verne law students involvement in Fall and Spring On Campus Interviewing, career fairs, and consortium events.
Assist with the mentor program and a mock interview program between students and attorneys.
Assist with skills development presentations and programs to assist students with job search techniques.
Develop and implement information programs and handouts designed to facilitate student self-assessment and to inform students and alumni about the wide range of traditional and non-traditional legal careers.
Develop and maintain working relationships and coordinate joint programs with student leaders, alumni, faculty, and local bar associations.
Work with all southern California career services offices to develop cooperative programs, job fairs and events.
Represent La Verne Law at local, regional and national meetings and conferences including the NALP Conference, the Los Angeles Area Legal Recruiters Association, the Orange County Legal Recruiters Association and local bar association events.
Assist with developing materials for prospective law students explaining the services available in the Career Services and Professional Development Office.
Assist when necessary with the law school’s efforts to recruit and enroll new students, including appreaing at recruiting events such as law fairs, Open House events, meeting with prospective law students, contributing written materials about La Verne’s career services to Admission’s information packets.
Counsel students in the Juris Doctor and the dual degree programs, JD/MPA and JD/MBA, as well as alumni about job searching strategies and career development in both traditional and non-traditional legal careers and externships.
Assist with developing a comprehensive Career Services reference library of publications regarding various types of employment and areas of practice, periodicals, journals and directories.
Assist with developing extensive written career materials for students and alumni, including outlines and articles on areas of practice, alternative careers, public interest careers, government careers, resume guides, cover letter guides, interviewing guides, and employer contact lists.
Assist with designing, distributing, tabulating and evaluating various career surveys and initiating recommendations for enhancements to the career services program based on survey feedback and developments in the profession. Assist with collecting and reporting employment statistics to national agencies such as NALP, U.S. News, and the ABA.
Experience in Customer Services, Sales or Counseling
A Juris Doctor is strongly preferred.
Counseling experience or experience in a college or university setting is preferred.
A license to practice law is preferred (any state).
Experience in the legal community is preferred.
Sales experience to the legal community highly desirable
Experience in employee recruitment and hiring desired.
