Under general supervision, performs secretarial duties, which include work requiring knowledge of specialized medical terminology, scheduling and precerting surgeries and tests and general secretarial duties.

High school diploma; supplemented with two (2) years secretarial experience which includes one (1) year using medical/scientific terminology.
Schedules surgeries, obtains precertification and prior auths. Notifies families and coordinates care with other specialty providers when needed. Ensures that consents get to same day surgery nurses. Provides scheduling support to physicians and residents for emergency add ons. Updates EPIC with appropriate scheduling information including CPT, ICD9 codes and precert numbers.
Answers and triages phone calls, processes voice and emails. Assists with travel arrangements. Organizes & keeps doctors schedule, assists with planning and organization of meetings. Assists with appeal and denials by obtaining further information. Orders interpreter when needed. Copies articles needed for teaching or research
Prepares pre-surgery packets for physicians review and also mails instructional pamphlets/reminders to patients after surgery has been scheduled.
Make contact with patients promptly after clinic visits and maintain effective communication with patient families in regard to surgery scheduling (by phone and mail)
Performs other duties as assigned.
