Detailed Job Description

Looking for a candidate with post-secondary teaching experience in the field of Biochemistry. This position places a strong focus on excellence in teaching and mentoring. The position will include teaching biochemistry lecture and laboratory courses, as well as other introductory and advanced chemistry/biochemistry courses.


A successful candidate shall teach 24 credit hours per academic year – summer semester not included. Beyond the classroom, teaching involves activities that impart knowledge and critical thinking skills to students, and includes preparing for courses assigned, assessing student progress, conducting curricular review, curricular development, and program review, and evaluating the use of new technology. The candidate will also be expected to contribute to the collegial environment of the department, collaborating and helping the department to establish preeminence. The candidate will also support the college through internal and external service activities and advising, and conduct professional development that leads to publishable works in a candidate’s field of expertise or in post-secondary education. The candidate will also be expected to develop and mentor an active undergraduate research program. The successful candidate must have the ability to work with and be sensitive to the educational needs of a diverse urban population.

Required Qualifications

Ph.D. conferred by January 1, 2013 in Biochemistry or closely related field.

Preferred Qualifications

Demonstrated dedication to excellence in teaching biochemistry; demonstrated effective communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills; post-secondary teaching experience; record of peer-reviewed publication; experience working collegially with multi-disciplinary teams and diverse populations; organic chemistry teaching experience; record of extramural funding; postdoctoral experience.
