Detailed Job Description

Under the direction of the Associate Dean of Undergraduate Academic Advising, the Undergraduate Academic Advisor will be responsible for the undertaking the following:

  • Manage a caseload of advisees; Meet with advisees within the first two weeks of the semester.

  • Provide guidance with course selection and registration pertaining to majors.

  • Help students understand majors' connection to graduate studies and/or career paths.

  • Communicate with students regularly to apprise them of semester mileposts (5ww, pre-registration, etc.) and end of semester status, relating to Dean's List, probation and dismissal, after review of grades.

  • Collaborate with Student Accounts & Financial Aid to support the financial literacy initiative.

  • Plan one event per semester to connect students to faculty in their major.

  • Attend two co-curricular events each semester and participate with Admissions events, Orientation, Welcome Week and Commencement.

  • Qualifications

  • Master's Degree in Education, Psychology, or Counseling is required.

  • Applicable Higher Education work experience is required.

  • College Advising experience is preferred.

  • Essential Functions

  • Excellent oral and written communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, Word, Excel, PowerPoint and experience with the internet.

  • Ability to accurately interpret and apply institutional/departmental policies and procedures.
