Assistant Professor of History

Job Description Summary:

The Department of History and Political Science invites applications for a tenure-track position in American history. Responsibilities include teaching introductory and upper-division courses in regional and national history (including the Southwest) within a global or transatlantic/transpacific context, as well as a course in historiography and research methods. A sub-specialization in Latin American, world, environmental, or women's history is preferred. The candidate will oversee the department's new emphasis in Public History and help develop the internship program with local museums and archives. The candidate will also teach GE courses as part of the University's Core curriculum and will also assist with the Social Science program in the department. This is a full-time, tenure track position at the assistant professor level, and begins Fall 2016.

The Department seeks someone with a strong background in American history. Area of specialization is open but a sub-specialization in Latin American, world, environmental, or women's history is preferred. S/he will have a Ph.D. in American history and evidence of excellent teaching skills. Student advising and committee work is required, as well as maintaining a record of scholarship, publication and professional activities to assure department and university visibility.
