The Department of Veterinary Clinical Sciences in the College of Veterinary Medicine is seeking a temporary, one-year Equine/Large Animal Surgery Instructor for the Veterinary Teaching Hospital at Washington State University. Responsibilities include the supervision and instruction of students, interns, residents and technicians during after-hours large animal medical and surgical emergencies, and instruction and supervision of students on the large animal emergency/ICU rotation. Opportunities to participate in teaching labs, conduct collaborative research with the equine surgery faculty, and provide CE on a local and/or regional level may exist and can be incorporated into position expectations. Some of the clinical duties may involve teaching and surgery service responsibilities during the day, as well. This position provides an opportunity to prepare for specialty boards. Individuals finishing their third year of equine surgery residency are encouraged to apply.
The candidate must possess a DVM or equivalent degree, have completed residency training at date of hire, and a demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with a diverse group of people in a team atmosphere.
Preferred qualifications include ACVS or ECVS specialty certification; experience in clinical and lab instruction/teaching; supervision of house officers and technical staff; and emergency surgical and medical experience, including colic surgery.
