Vice President for Academic Affairs
For nearly two centuries DePauw University has provided a student experience of extraordinary quality in an intentionally small-scale residential setting. With 2,400 students and a 10:1 student faculty ratio, the University has consistently been ranked among the top 50 liberal arts institutions in the nation. By building on existing strengths while creating new ones, DePauw has an opportunity to move into the top tier of American colleges and universities. Over the next several years, DePauw plans to enrich its curriculum and the programs through which students connect their campus-based learning to the world at large; to strengthen the faculty and the resources that support teaching and scholarly engagement; and to improve the campus and its facilities. DePauw will thereby enhance its standing as a place that attracts students of profound promise and achievement and educates them to be leaders, while recruiting, developing and retaining engaged scholars and artists who are teachers of the first order.
DePauw University seeks an exceptional Vice President for Academic Affairs for this exciting, transformational period. DePauw marks its 175th year with ambitious plans to make the University one of the nation’s strongest liberal arts institutions. The VPAA will serve as chief academic officer and report to the University’s President. S/he will take stewardship of all academic programs, overseeing the faculty (hiring, development, and evaluation), the core curriculum, departmental majors, interdisciplinary programs and centers of inquiry, and several administrative offices that support academic life. Direct reports to the VPAA include academic department chairs and program directors, the Director of the University Library, the Chief Information Officer, the Director of University Museums and Collections, the Registrar, and the Dean for Experiential Education and Career Services. Within the Office of Academic Affairs the VPAA oversees the Dean of the Faculty and the Dean for Academic Life.
The VPAA will join a dynamic administration that seeks to increase DePauw’s national and international visibility and strengthen the University’s intellectual life. In partnership with the President, senior administrators, faculty, and trustees, the VPAA will increase the University’s reach and resources and foster for both faculty and students a culture of transformative intellectual engagement.
