This position is responsible for designing, testing, implementing, administering, managing, and supporting enterprise/service provider level networking and security systems. Responsibilities include analyzing networking/security requirements, specifying networking/security equipment, monitoring, troubleshooting, and resolving networking/security problems, monitoring and enforcing University network standards and policies. This position is also responsible for assessing current and emerging network implementations and practices, and provides consulting support on the design and implementation of networking & security solutions and technologies to University colleges and departments.
A Bachelor’s degree and three (3) years related professional experience or a combination of education and experience totaling seven (7) years from which comparable knowledge and abilities were acquired.
Demonstrated knowledge and experience with IT network routing and switching technologies, architectures, principles, implementations, and support of IP layer 3 networks at an enterprise/service provider level.
Demonstrated experience with layer 3 IP networks, VLANs, OSPF, MPLS and BGP.
Experience with some or all of the following technologies: controller based WiFi, Cisco IOS, Juniper OS, SNMP network monitoring tools, FTTH, GPON, and copper/fiber infrastructure.
Demonstrated ability to utilize analytical and communication skills in the development and modification of written procedures, processes, and technical support knowledge base, resulting in content tailored to the level and type of audience for support and issue resolution.
Demonstrated experience with current computer technology and applications (e.g. word processing, spreadsheet, and collaboration applications).
Working knowledge and understanding of the TCP/IP protocol suite and implementations.
Experience with firewalls, VPNs and load balancers.
Experience with programming languages such as Perl or Python.
Experience troubleshooting fiber and copper.
Knowledge and/or experience working with network management protocols and systems.
The ability to isolate and troubleshoot networking and security issues, and applying networking and/or security tools and techniques within a multi-vendor network infrastructure and to rapidly identify and resolve issues.
Experience in UNIX system administration and server configuration.
Knowledge of current Windows and Mac operating systems.
Ability to prioritize work assignments and work on difficult tasks with minimal supervision.
Knowledge and experience with Cisco networking systems and/or Cisco Unified Communications systems.
Knowledge of network security technologies, best practices and issues related to network switching, routing, and transport.
Hold industry standard network certification(s).
