Detailed Job Description

The Communications Specialist works with a department or area to develop and implement communication plans and activities to support the goals of a specific department, a college and/or The University.

Additional Department Summary:

Responsible for communications with the community and University via publications and other avenues. Writes, edits and designs feature stories, news stories and promotional materials published by the alumni publications department in the Office of Alumni Affairs, both for print and online distribution. Participates in planning and execution of special projects to support the department's overall communications strategies. This position functions as the assistant editor of the "Alabama Alumni Magazine."

Required Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree or higher in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, English, Marketing, Advertising or related field and one (1) year experience in journalism, public relations, or other communications related experience OR Master's degree. Related student or Graduate Assistant, Intern, or student oriented experience will be considered. To be considered student experience, it must be detailed in the employment section on the application.

Additional Required Department Minimum Qualifications:

A cover letter, résumé and writing and design samples must be submitted. A minimum of one year experience in feature and news writing, editing, graphic design and photography is required, along with a working knowledge of the print production process. Experience with both MACs and PCs using InDesign, Photoshop and Microsoft Office programs is required, along with a command of Associated Press writing style. Valid U.S. driver's license required. Must be at least 21 years of age and have an acceptable motor vehicle report as determined by the insurance carrier.

Preferred Qualifications:

Functional photography experience preferred. 56 Monthly (exempt): - Minimum - $ 29120.04 Midpoint - $ 40767.96
