Detailed Job Description

The essential job duties of the director include, but are not limited to, serving as chief of police, directing the overall operation of the campus police department; developing and implementing policies and procedures that ensure high-quality campus safety and security services; overseeing the investigation of reports of crimes and other incidents and recommending appropriate action to resolve and prevent recurrence; recruiting, training, supervising, and evaluating employees assigned to the department; planning and implementing crime prevention awareness programs; preparing compliance documentation and collecting, analyzing, and publicizing crimes as required by the Clery Act; serving as the primary budgetary and procurement officer; functioning as the primary community officer to other law enforcement agencies and adjoining neighborhoods; coordinating parking services and security for special events on campus; providing oversight to the campus emergency plan and guidance to the emergency planning committee; and creating and maintaining an environment of mutual respect with members of the campus community.

Requirements: Bachelor’s degree in a related field; an Indiana Law Enforcement Academy certificate or the equivalent; and at least ten years of progressive law enforcement experience. The successful candidate will have strong leadership, communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills. The candidate should possess the ability to understand the higher education environment and work collaboratively on a diverse campus with varied and broad constituencies.
