Job Description:


The College's Division of Humanities and Learning Communities houses the academic departments of English, English as a Second Language, Foreign Languages, and Creative Arts. The Division is also home to the Library and Learning Commons; Teaching, Learning and Instructional Technology Center; and the College's nationally recognized Learning Communities Program. The cornerstone of a college education, the Humanities provides students with the knowledge, skills and habits of mind to adapt to any pathway in their educations, careers and lives.


Assist the Dean in overseeing the Division of Humanities & Learning Communities in the following areas:

  • Investigate and respond to student academic concerns and grade appeals within the guidelines of the student handbook and faculty contracts across the division's 1,200 courses;
  • Triage student behavioral concerns and communicate them to the Dean as required;
  • Work closely with department chairs in distributing, collecting, and filing semester availability forms and filling vacant courses within our Colleague portal or Datatel System;
  • Counsel the division's 275 faculty with regards to managing difficult student situations within and outside of the classroom;
  • Prepare reports, data, projections and estimates related to the Division's annual operating and grant budgets;
  • Analyze division course offerings and report requested data to the respective collective bargaining representative;
  • Collaborate with the Dean of Students Office to review and sanction violation cases/reports of the student code of conduct;
  • Document and refer potential concerns regarding issues of discrimination to the office of Diversity and Inclusion;
  • Perform several HR functions, including scheduling; issuing of contracts; processing of new hire materials; documentation of educational and professional experience; collection and review of syllabi; and ongoing communication;
  • Assist in overseeing successful functioning and management of the divisional office.


  • Master's degree preferred; bachelor's degree required;
  • Three years prior experience in higher education required, community college experience preferred;
  • Strong interpersonal, organizational, analytical, computer database, writing and communication skills;
  • Proven ability to work effectively with a diverse faculty, staff and student population;
  • Background in student development theory and practice a plus.

Bunker Hill Community College is a multi-campus institution with vibrant, urban campuses in Boston, Massachusetts, in nearby Chelsea, Massachusetts, and at three satellite locations in the Greater Boston area. Additional Information

Salary Range: $55,000.00-$60,000.00
