Job Responsibilities

Prepares, reviews and ensures the accuracy of all cash and account reconciliations through monthly analysis and reconciliation of assigned balance sheet accounts

Tracks and reconciles activity with external partners, including but not limited to, Barnes and Noble and Regional Transit Authority

Works with the Accounting Manager to develop procedures, processes and technology applications that strengthen and enhance the Financial Services operations and workflow

Develops, monitors and advises on achievement of annual goals and objectives related to professional development of staff

Provides training to new and existing staff, as needed

Partners with College stakeholders to understand the underlying business practices to insure that appropriate internal controls are in place and that activities are recorded in accordance with GAAP

Works with others to identify, research and resolve variances for related income statement accounts in a timely manner

Prepares monthly journal entry postings and account activity analyses

Prepares support schedules and other analyses as needed for the long-range plan, including projections of revenues and expenses

Performs other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE/TRAINING

Bachelor’s degree in Business, Accounting, or related field and a minimum of four years of demonstrated progressively responsible accounting/analyst experience

CMA or CPA certification (or candidate)

Demonstrated experience supervising, planning, assigning, scheduling and ensuring the quality of the work of others

Demonstrated experience effectively making decisions that have major implications on the management and operations within a department

Demonstrated effectiveness in a role requiring dynamic and abstract problem solving methods in adaptive situations

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS and ABILITIES

Strong technical accounting and financial analytical skills

Demonstrated commitment to providing exceptional customer service

Understanding of mainframe computer applications such as Oracle and/or Banner

Ability to provide supervision of general accounting and other accounting functions and staff

Problem solving skills with the ability to develop and apply creative solutions

A self-starter, with high energy in order to work in a busy and fast paced environment

Ability to effectively complete work assignments independently

Possesses comprehensive knowledge of accounting theories, concepts and practices with the ability to use in complex, difficult and/or unprecedented situations as it pertains to the departmental focus

Demonstrated intermediate project management skills

Demonstrated intermediate Banner System (or equivalent program) skills

Intermediate-level proficiency with Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Access (or equivalent software)

Willingness to take initiative, prioritize and perform proactively

Possesses strong organizational and time-management skills

Possesses excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills

Ability to foster a team environment and work collaboratively

Ability to research and analyze issues and develop solutions

Ability to prioritize/handle multiple tasks and work with deadlines in a dynamic environment

Works accurately with great attention to detail

Excellent customer service skills and proven ability to develop and sustain productive customer relationships

Preferred Qualifications

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE/TRAINING

Master’s degree in Business, Accounting, or related field

Governmental and fund accounting experience;

Experience working within a higher education environment;

Experience with Banner System

Demonstrated database experience

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS and ABILITIES

Knowledge of accounting as prescribed by the Governmental Accounting Standards Board

Work Schedule

Standard College hours of operation, Monday through Friday 8:30am – 5:00pm
