Detailed Job Description

Assists students in the automotive, diesel, or collision technology labs with the completion of their lab tasks and assignments. Helps students learn the correct procedures to operate the tools and equipment in the lab safely and proficiently. Provides assistance to the lab instructor with demonstrations and teaching responsibilities as assigned. Helps the instructor enforce proper safety procedures. Helps maintain shop organization and cleanliness.

Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent plus six months experience working in a laboratory handling, maintaining, and repairing lab equipment and materials used in experimentation.


Knowledge of the correct operation and safe use of the tools and equipment students use to complete their tasks.

Knowledge of the layout of the Auto, Collision, or Diesel labs, where to find the correct supplies, information, tools, or equipment used to complete a designated task.

Knowledge of UVU Automotive, Collision or Diesel program policies and procedures.


Skills in the operation, adjustment, calibration, and maintenance of the diesel, electrical, hydraulic, power train, and chassis related components and equipment used at the university.


Ability to adapt to the variations in the curriculum and course material, to solve problems and think on your feet.

Ability to communicate effectively with an instructor and multiple students.

Ability to follow detailed written and verbal directions.

Ability to explain detailed procedures to students.

Ability to speak loud enough to be heard over the general noise of the lab.

Pay Range

$9.00 to $11.25 per hour
