50% time: Support of public technology facilities and services in B.E.S.T. Library. The position works in consultation with the Access Services Supervisor of B.E.S.T., the Head of B.E.S.T., and the Libraries Systems Office in the maintenance and upkeep of these facilities. The position consults on multimedia (including textual, graphical, A/V, and 3D) technology projects developed with library resources by library clientele (undergraduate and graduate students, faculty, and staff). Consultations include suggesting possible directions and solutions, and identifying, selecting, and learning to use appropriate tools and applications as needed; hence a strong background and interest in continued development of technology skills is needed. The position troubleshoots technical problems with public and staff computer resources and other technology in the facility.
30% time: Staffing of the B.E.S.T. Library Circulation and Reserves Desk. The Desk is the hub in the library for circulation, materials processing, reserve materials, and basic reference functions, and is the first point of contact for assisting many library patrons. The position cooperates in staffing the desk during library hours, participates in hiring, training, supervising, and monitoring student workers who staff the facility, and may lead particular projects which involve oversight of student work.
20% time: Coordination of Reserve Materials. This position has primary duty for processing of reserve materials held at the B.E.S.T. Circulation Desk. This includes books on reserve as well as electronic equipment available at the desk for short-term checkout. The position keeps updated records of all reserve materials at B.E.S.T. Library, coordinates with library staff and course instructors on updates to records and needed materials, and assists with administrative duties such as developing and maintaining spreadsheets, reports, etc.
Provide one-to-one consultation, instruction, and technical assistance to library clientele on technology projects.
Maintain a broad knowledge base and operational skills in a variety of multimedia software and equipment including graphics editing and audio-video editing software.
Maintain reserve collections items and catalog records, and coordinate with library staff and course instructors to maintain updated offerings and records.
Assist in operating and maintaining the library's technology services including 3D printers and 3D scanning services.
Investigate and troubleshoot problems that arise in the library's technology facilities, communicating with B.E.S.T. supervisors and the Libraries' Systems Office to keep apprised of outstanding issues.
Assist with identification and evaluation of new technologies for the library.
Work approximately twelve assigned hours per week at the B.E.S.T. Library Circulation/Reserves Desk. Assist in operations of the library, including oversight of the facility, and stacks maintenance and material transit (paging, OhioLink, interlibrary loan) operations.
Participate in hiring, training, scheduling, supervising, and monitoring performance of 10-15 student workers who staff the library.
Assist with the creation and maintenance of digital and print signage and displays in the library.
Communicate effectively both orally and in writing with staff and clientele.
Participate in library teams, committees, and initiatives as assigned.
Perform other duties as required or assigned.
Strong computer skills including familiarity with PC and Macintosh operating systems as well as experience with word processing, spreadsheet, presentation, graphics editing, and web design (e.g. Microsoft Office, Adobe Creative Suite, and Google productivity products, HTML5 markup and CSS).
Periodic assignments are given which entail dealing with modestly unpleasant physical situations.
Requires eighteen to twenty-four months of coursework or training beyond high school and three years of library experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Associate's Degree or higher, preferably in a technology field including Educational Technology, Design, or Media Production.
Familiarity and facility with emerging multimedia software and hardware including video and 3D production technologies.
Demonstrated high quality customer service skills.
Demonstrated supervisory skills.
Print and/or digital graphic design experience.
Willingness and capability to independently learn and assess new technologies.
Demonstrated ability and willingness to work as part of a team; flexibility in a rapidly changing environment.
