American International College is seeking a Bursar to become an innovative member of its team of professionals. The Bursar is a professional management position responsible for the day-to-day operations for the student accounts, billing and collections team. The Bursar reports to the Vice President for Finance and provides leadership and oversight of the department and is responsible for ensuring the delivery of high quality customer service, developing and implementing policies and procedures, maintaining regulatory compliance, and meeting collections objectives of the College.
Successful candidates will exhibit an appreciation for the opportunities and value of small private higher education, an understanding of tuition driven institutions, and have the ability to plan for and respond to growth in enrollment.
Successful candidates will have at least 5 years of related experience in account receivable management in higher education, knowledge and understanding of federal cash management regulations, FERPA regulations, and generally accepted accounting principles and practices.
Excellent planning, organizational, delegation, team building, verbal and written communication skills required. BA/BS in accounting, finance, business administration or related field experience preferred, Jenzabar experience a plus.
Oversees pricing, invoicing, processing student cash receipts, student refunds, collections in accordance with Title IV and AIC policy.
Develops, maintains, implements and monitors policies and procedures relating to all student accounts functions in accordance with College policy; state and federal guidelines.
Ensures compliance with federal cash management regulations.
Collaborates with various campus constituencies on matters related to student accounts and collections.
Supervises the timely and accurate posting of federal, state, institutional and external student aid.
Oversees student tuition payment plans, and works directly with students, helping them understand and plan for the financing of the cost of the college education.
Supervises the timely and accurate posting of cash receipts and other applicable items.
Provides liaison for general ledger reconciliations.
Provides various reports and analyses for management and as needed for operating and generally accepted accounting principles.
Oversees tuition payment plans, implements collection policies, interacts with outside collection agencies or counsel, and projects cash inflow from student receivables.
Prepares, reviews, and analyzes accounts receivable reports and forecasts cash flow.
Along with the Controller, periodically reviews accounting and internal controls to determine that they are operating effectively.
Participates in the on-going review of software issues and identifies and implements solutions.
Prioritizes and manages multiple tasks concurrently.
Coordinates, supervises and reviews the work of staff.
Responds to incoming correspondence and reviews appeals for refunds.
Hires, trains and instructs staff on an on-going basis.
Ensures excellent customer service is provided to students, parents, faculty and staff.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
