Detailed Job Description

The Career Coach provides academic support, career advising and external job referrals to the participants. The Career Coach serves as an official representative of CCAC and as such, shall promote a positive first-impression by adopting and demonstrating a collegial, client-relations approach to students, faculty/staff, employers, and other stakeholders within the College community. This position is also part of the Learning Community, comprised of student, faculty, and administration to assist with students' completion and placement.  

Job Duties

1. Monitor or conduct the initial assessment of the students' academic performance level in reading, English, and mathematics.
2. Identify self-paced remediation modules for students in reading and math.
3. Assist faculty when necessary to ensure that participants are mastering the concepts required.
4. Establish and maintain pre-and post-records of participants' progress
5. Monitor students' academic progress through classwork completion.
6. Collect appropriate data for periodic reports and presentation of student progress to the CCAC Project Manager.
7. Identify technical problems and contact technical support for problem resolution.
8. Schedule and meet with program faculty and staff at West Hills for student follow-up and class scheduling.
9. Facilitate student appointments relation to course progress, job search planning.
10. Develop and maintain associations with other College Departments, such as Career Services and Student Services.
11. Assist student with occupational, educational and employment research.
12. Participate in student orientations.
13. Participate in planning of the next phase of the project.
14. Mentor graduates and where appropriate refer to prospective employers.
15. Recruit new students for each program.
16. Assist in the development of new programs for this project.
17. Introduce the Men of Merit and other college initiatives to the students enrolled in this program.
18. Plan and present information sessions to external organizations and schools on the programs and the process for matriculate.
19. Perform other related duties as required or assigned.

Job Specifications

Bachelor's degree and minimum of 1 year experience working with college students. Strong interpersonal, communication, organizational and problem solving skills; strong writing skills; proficiency in the use of computer technology to monitor and improve student achievement; and the ability to travel to various centers.

Additional Information

This is a grant funded temporary part-time 25 hrs/wk position without benefits. Continued employment is contingent on sufficient future funding.
