The School of Arts and Sciences (A&S), and the School of Engineering share Tufts undergraduate student enrollment of nearly 5,000 students and collaboratively manage the student affairs and support functions for these students. Graduate students in each school also benefit from what is commonly known on campus as the shared bucket of administrative services. The School of Arts and Sciences (A&S) is the largest of Tufts eight Schools with an enrollment of nearly 4,300 full-time undergraduate students and 900 graduate students. Undergraduate enrollment in the School of Engineering (SOE) is approximately 730, with 550 graduate students. The faculty for both schools includes 362 full-time and 195 part-time faculty members and the University boasts an undergraduate student-faculty ratio of 9:1 in Arts and Sciences and 8:1 in Engineering, creating a uniquely intimate scale for a major research university. A&S encompass more than 27 departments covering the arts, the humanities, the natural sciences, and the social sciences, as well as 25 interdisciplinary programs. The School offers nearly 150 undergraduate majors and minors as well as combined degree programs and partnerships with the School of the Museum of Fine Arts and the New England Conservatory, both located a few miles from the campus.

The School of Engineering, which houses six academic departments and Tufts Gordon Institute (TGI), offers 14 degree programs at the undergraduate level. At the graduate level, the school offers seven doctoral degrees, many Master of Science and Master of Engineering degrees, as well as TGI's unique Master of Science in Engineering Management program. SOE also supports many cross disciplinary, cross-school educational programs at both the graduate and undergraduate levels.

Undergraduate and Graduate Student Life (UGSL) oversees a broad array of services critical to the lives of undergraduate and graduate students, and works to ensure that these services support each students ability to be successful at Tufts. UGSL launches its engagement with students in its orientation program for new students and closes with the services provided to graduates at Career Services. In between these bookend experiences, the division is involved in all aspects of co-curricular life. The division provides direct support to the intellectual life through academic advising, academic support, the registrar, and study abroad. Creating and supporting a healthy, welcoming environment for the diverse student body is under the purview of the Dean of Undergraduate & Graduate Student Life and includes residential life, health and counseling services, multicultural support, fraternities and sororities, and student activities. Finally, the division has responsibility for a wide range of transactional departments critical to the functioning of the institution including financial aid services, the bursar, and technology support. The division seeks in its work to provide comprehensive services to undergraduate and graduate students to develop and support an environment conducive to the intellectual, emotional, and social development and success of each student. The division seeks to provide transformational experiences to all of its students.

Position Overview: Reporting to the Dean of Arts and Sciences with a dotted-line report to the Dean of Engineering, the Dean of Undergraduate and Graduate Students is responsible for:

1. Dean of Student Affairs
2. Dean of Academic Advising and Support
3. Dean of Student Services
4. Director of Multicultural Programming
5. Director of Study Abroad Programs

The Dean of Undergraduate and Graduate Students is responsible for the overall vision and effectiveness of the co-curricular experience. The person will be responsible for developing and overseeing the programs and departments within the division that support the intellectual, emotional, and social development and success of undergraduate and graduate students. The Dean will also belong to a team of individuals who will integrate the student life experience in the School of Arts and Sciences and the School of Engineering with the schools academic missions. In addition, the Dean will be responsible for supporting and sustaining a multicultural campus community that is inclusive and responsive to an increasingly diverse student and faculty body.

Basic Requirements:This position requires a Doctorate and a minimum of ten (10) years of relevant experience. The candidate must possess a track record of significant leadership in college/university administration or student life. The selected candidate will have a compelling vision and demonstrated experience working across the curricular and co-curricular boundaries of an institution in order to develop an environment conducive to the intellectual, emotional, and social development and success of an increasingly diverse undergraduate and graduate student body.Candidates must also possess experience with the following:

* Engaging with and supporting undergraduate and graduate students in a high achieving, selective university.
* Partnering with faculty, responding to their needs and concerns, and working with them to advance the integration of living and learning, in and out of the classrooms of a student body with diverse backgrounds, preparation levels, and needs.
* Working effectively as part of a senior leadership team characterized by trust, open communication, and shared goals.
* Recruiting, developing, and managing high-performance teams; optimizing the effectiveness of the division on multiple dimensions; and creating a cohesive team that communicates effectively to each other and to the members of the Tufts community.
* Advancing diversity and supporting a multicultural environment that unites students, faculty, and staff across differences.
* Developing and implementing effective communication strategies to inform constituents broadly across the institution; building relationships at all levels of the organization.
* Managing financial resources wisely; creating a culture of accountability with a strong customer service orientation; using metrics to measure progress and model continuous improvement.
